Dr. Dave is Home with the Lord
Dr. Dave Reid (April 2, 1937 - January 31, 2012)

Dear Friends,
Yesterday we lost and the Lord gained.
A dear friend and brother went home to be with the Lord.
Dr. Dave Reid was just last week teaching a class at Jackson Hole Bible College on the subject of "The Theology of the Will of God." This great class was his second week of teaching at JHBC which began last fall when we co-taught a class on hermeneutics. His skill in hermeneutics was a goal for us all. His winsome laugh and demeanor was a joy.
Dave was a professor at Emmaus Bible College for many years and over the years has had a wonderful ministry to many through his web site, www.growingchristians.org. He told me last week he had recently completed over 1300 recorded sessions of teaching through the entire Bible.
He was a new friend to me for we had met just a few years ago. He and his wife Margie accompanied us (and he also spoke) on our Ancient Man cruise last year to the Yucatan. Dr. Dave shared a devotional and joined in discovering more in our understanding of ancient man.
We talked last week, with the blessing of our church council, of his further involvement here in Jackson as a team member at both the church and the college. I was thrilled he was open to this and he said he would wait for more dates to see if it would work.
It is amazing how fast one can become friends and it was so not just for Beverly and myself but our whole staff. We loved him. Our students loved him as well and thoroughly enjoyed his practical teaching which impacts their daily lives.
Yesterday Dr. Dave was skiing by himself on a very difficult and dangerous trail at a ski resort in Utah. Without knowing all the details we understand he took a severe fall, and as a result there were severe injuries. He was in Utah for a week which was a time of mentoring in Bible study to a few men he was discipling. He had been doing this retreat for some time and the men close to him will be in shock also.
His wife Margie lives in Rhode Island with her children and grandchildren. His son, Ron, ran the ministry for Dave and there too will be shock and grief, but not without hope!
Dr. Dave was a man of God and we might ask why the Lord would remove a man like this from the front lines. Yet we must recognize and replace our honest questions with confidence in His sovereign will and wisdom. But on earth we are grieving his loss.
We hope you will pray for Margie, the children and also for his very close friends and those to whom we was actively ministering. Such a man and friend was Robert Sullivan who is also on the board at Emmaus and who was here last week to pick Dave up to take him back to Salt Lake. We appreciated also Robert's sharing about God's will with the students.
I have attached two pictures. One of Dave with his wonderful smile and one of Dave and myself at a Mayan ruin in the Yucatan.
We had great excitement for possible future ministry together and God has willed it not to be. However, his memory and influence remain and are a glory to our Lord Jesus Christ.
Well-done Dave, you good and faithful servant. Yet more importantly we trust you are hearing that from the Lord Himself!
